OPINION ABOUT THE SITUATION IN EGYPT

Theotonio Dos Santos

Many readers of my blog should still ask why not intervened in the analysis of the Egyptian question. I confess that I have not yet formed an opinion about the current situation. The first thing bothers me is the massive dissemination of the large international press about the "revolution" that Egypt would march. To date more than 50 years of systematic monitoring of national and international press (are equal) never seen the international press to highlight information favorable to progressive social transformation. On the contrary: every time a process of mass emerges she is against, except those in pquais There is an obvious interest of the United States and its allies. In the Egyptian case it seems that they are interested primarily the lack of political leadership with a clear criticism of the Egyptian-Israeli agreement. It is also a safety signal the presence of the Egyptian army as the main guarantor of the process in motion.
However, I do not think it is so obvious control of the situation by the governments of USA and Israel. The truth is that the Islamic fundamentalist movement - that the United States, Saudi Arabia and other regimes and oligarchies funded - entered an open clash against EE. UU. increasingly difficult to control. Moreover, they tend to grow and take root in the region and in several majority Muslim countries. I remember in the distant 1985, when we celebrated 30 years in Egypt, the Conference of Bamdung, the fright of socialists and Arab nationalists, then in power in several countries, given the growth of Islamic fundamentalist movement. On this occasion I had the opportunity to voice my opinion that this was a strong grassroots movement, composed by more than professional and technical people by "lumpen" as many tend to believe. Then came what we saw, the movement took root especially from the struggle against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, that error had the honor of fighting, prompting the Soviets themselves about the seriousness of this decision that revealed a great contempt for the historical importance of Islam and its mobilization force in a world dominated by an ideologically ideology "Western" increasingly alienated from the process of affirmation of the decolonization process in motion and the affirmation of the historic nations excluded from the world power system. Gave in giving. Most tend to underestimate these cultural phenomena, which is a profound mistake. Is increasingly clear that the historic civilizations tend to relive a time of general crisis of the ideology of modernity and civilization that confuses the West. They are at the same time, a force of articulating processes of regional integration that is increasingly opposed to U.S. hegemony over the world. In this plan, Nasser's Egypt, who participated actively in the Conference Bamdung in 1955 accounted for clearly this historical dimension to be one of the earliest known civilizations at that time. At this meeting participated in China and India, Indonesia and the African liberation, and Yugoslavia. Thousands of years of civilization with strong roots that were under colonial rule by the imperialist West. And now finally reborn with the establishment of powerful nation states whose role in the world would undeniably necessary in a few more decades.

These historical forces so vast they subordinate to imperialist rule indefinitely? Of course not, more a historical moment in which they overcame the Cold War against whom oppose these new revolutionary leaders calling for establishment of a Non-Aligned Movement of countries. Thesis victorious in 1989 with self-destruction of the Soviet Union by unilaterally imposing the end of the Cold War the United States a perplexed that, with the support of the press who now wants to turn the struggle against dictatorial governments pro-American in a U.S. flag, has reversed in its favor the end of its main instrument of hegemonic domination after World War II, ie the union of the West against the "threat" Soviet Oriental.

Hopefully it dissolves a little nature to know the exact meaning and extent of these revolts underway. We know historically that democracy is the path that brings us closer to socialism. Whenever the masses are on the streets against oppression is the duty of every true revolutionary support them and seek to guide their struggles against their real enemies. Of this there is no doubt. But we know well the provision of these enemies.

We know clearly that the years of imperialist oppression has led to a radicalization of popular sentiment anti-American not only in this region but around the world. Unfortunately, the Middle East, this sentiment is now led by forces linked to Islamic fundamentalism. They spend heavily for the Palestinian problem and the deepening of a paranoid vision of the world in Israel. A declining Jewish population increases every day to its radicalization and violence against the Arab world in population growth, economic, cultural and intellectual. Nothing indicates that this arrogance will lead to a happy ending. Nor can you expect the American Jewish community can impose indefinitely the idea that the United States have to support this Israeli arrogance.

Meanwhile, the experiences of democratic processes in the region indicate that the imperialist powers and their local allies are unwilling to respect elections dominated by forces of Islamic Fundamentalisms. But while the actions North American, European and West in general are defined clearly contrary the majorities who challenge their domination.
As Roosevelt said: Sandino is a bastard, but he's our sonofabitch. They wanted to hold him until the last minute as most of the tyrants who support and guaranteed power. Mubarak had the displeasure of prove this saying the U.S. president. Who tried to keep him in power until September but then accepted oust him before his arrogance. The command passed to the army under the direction of a pro-American and agreement with Israel. The elections would come in September, so a new constitution. Many will struggle to bring the Egyptian people to a historical view against what he thinks. If they gain the new emerging forces and the workers who maintained the strike six months before the great mass movements exploding. Even when the world press will continue to follow so closely the events? Even when there is a clear willingness to respect the majorities who propose to rule the country?
